    Harry Brod, Professor of Philosophy and Humanities
    Department of Philosophy and Religion University of Northern Iowa

    Dr. Brod received his PhD and M.A. in philosophy from the University of California at San Diego in 1981 and 1975. He received a B.A. in Humanities from New York University in 1972. His publications include The Legacy of the Holocaust (Jagiellonian University Press, 2002), Hegel's Philosophy of Politics (Westview, 1992) and several edited volumes. His academic work concentrates on the interdisciplinary study of gender, specifically men's studies. Before accepting his position at UNI, he taught at Temple University and the University of Delaware. He has also lectured at UCLA, USC, Mount Saint Mary's College, Los Angeles, Kenyon College and the University of Pennsylvania.

    University of California, Berkeley and author Dude, You're a Fag: Masculinity and Sexuality in High School which “…sheds new light on masculinity both as a field of meaning and as a set of social practices. C. J. Pascoe's unorthodox approach analyzes masculinity as not only a gendered process but also a sexual one. She demonstrates how the "specter of the fag" becomes a disciplinary mechanism for regulating heterosexual as well as homosexual boys and how the "fag discourse" is as much tied to gender as it is to sexuality."
